Finally, A Home of Their Own

BURMESE PYTHON

“Alexander the Great” came to the Sanctuary in February of 2005.  His previous owner, a tall, thin man, lived by himself in the country.  He did care a lot for Alex but was unable to handle the   thirteen foot long Burmese python by himself.  After much thought about donating him to us he decided it was best.  Douglas and Zachary drove close to sixty-five miles to pick him up.  It was worth the drive.  Alexander was in excellent health for a fourteen year old python.  He has a beautiful greenish-brown tint to his skin and a pearl white belly.  He has his moments when he doesn’t like to be handled, but who doesn’t.  Fortunately, he has never bitten or tried to coil up on anyone here at the sanctuary.  We guess his hiss is worse than his bite.  He loves to coil up and get cozy in front of his heat lamp, especially after a good meal.  We take him out to lie in the sun and stretch out, but only well supervised.  We always use at least three people to handle him.    Everyone here at the Sanctuary thinks he is an awesome specimen.  We hope you do too.
